As a rookie team we learned a lot throughout our first season. Here are some thoughts from our mentor, as well as, some team members about what they take away from their experiences.
“Time management was a huge lesson for us as a team. I also feel that we learned the importance of having officers for different areas of the club that have specific roles/responsibilities . I feel this is an area we can still improve on as we move forward. As a young team, we still have a need to learn how to properly use the tools we have at our disposal, this is part of the process and during the off season we will have many opportunities to get a system in place to provide additional support. Above all, I learned that students will put forth amazing effort when they truly enjoy what they are working on. I learned that I like Blue Banners and I want more of them. Team 5472 Rocks!!!” ~ T. Donovan
“I learned that a lot of fun can be had when you work together and you can persevere and make it to the world championship.” ~ Conner K.
“I learned that teamwork, combined with strategizing and planning, can lead to success. Even if you fail, you are still having fun as a team by watching or talking with other teams. I have also learned new skills in the mechanical field (knew nothing at beginning of the year). Positions/Officers is definitely important when building a team. Different people match different roles and people will improve/gain experience as time goes. Being a part of Team 5472 has probably been one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I got to make lots of friends this year, learned new skills in areas that I wanted to explore in, and take part in one of the most exciting, thrilling, and challenging leagues out there, FIRST Robotics Competition. Without FIRST, my first year of high school would of been terrible. I’m glad that I was able to participate in 3 tournaments (one being the World Championship!) Thank you FIRST and Team 5472!” ~ Cooper M.
“This year was an amazing year in FIRST and it helped me figure out my passions. I started out doing inventory in the club and quickly learned to love that and working on the mechanical and electrical side of things. I met so many amazing people and learned about career opportunities in the robotics world. I’m glad I joined FIRST and I can’t wait until next year.” ~ Justin S.
“Being on Team 5472 this past year has been the best time of my life. I met lots of new people from all over the world at competitions. I am also now 100% sure that engineering/robotics is what I want to go into as a lifelong career.” ~ Joseph P.
